Renault is arguably the most iconic brand France has produced. Throughout its history, it has always been one to push boundaries, from the first people-carrier, to the sheer madness of the Avantime. Renault today produces cars that try to combine this want for practicality and innovation. So whilst there's your usual range of quality small hatchbacks, and user-friendly family cars, there’s also some exceptional crossover vehicles.
Renault is also one of the market leaders in electric cars. With all-electric options in the range, Renault is a brand that seems to really care about the future of our planet. And for some buyers, that’ll be enough to look no further than the French brand.
The most recognisable car in the range is the Renault Clio. The Clio has always been one of the best superminis out there, and the most recent version is no different. It’s loveable looks, refined engines, and cheap purchase price and running costs, make the Clio a great all-round package. The rear-engined, rear-wheel drive Twingo is Renault’s entry into the city car market, it’s also one of the most fun to drive. With bold styling and ample space (due to the engine position), the Twingo is one of the best out there.
The range of family cars that Renault offers are equally impressive. The Scenic and Grand Scenic MPVs are still on the go, and they’re as reliable and as spacious as they ever were. The new kids on the block though push things even further. The Captur is Renault’s Nissan Juke-rivalling mini-crossover vehicle. It’s arguably much better as well. Without the Juke’s questionable looks, and with increased practicality, the Captur is a great small family car. Further up the range is the Kadjar. Made to rival the Nissan Qashqai, and with the same chassis as its rival, the Kadjar is at least as good, and arguably better looking.
One area that Renault really excels is in its electric car offerings. With the biggest range in Europe, Renault is a brand that knows what it’s doing. The mad-looking two-seater Renault Twizy is a perfect about-town eco-friendly vehicle, and is the cheapest electric ‘car’ on sale in the UK. Whilst there’s not much space, it is exceptionally cool. There’s also the ground-breaking Renault Zoe. Priced at around the same level as a normal supermini, the Zoe offers electric power to the masses. Practical, spacious, and without the usual setbacks of electric power, the Zoe is the car of the future, now.
