About the scholarship
The Carspring IMI Female Automotive Scholarship is designed to foster the next generation of female talent, interested in joining the automotive industry. Successful applicants will benefit from both financial support and work experience. The programme, a collaboration between Carspring and the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI), is designed to aid recipients with their higher education or professional training and gain valuable insights into this fast moving sector.
The financial element of the scholarship will be received as a bursary, with a one-off lump sum of £1000 for each successful applicant. Those who are successful will also be given a minimum of 2 weeks’ work experience in Carspring's London or Berlin office. Here they’ll be immersed in a dynamic company, shaking up the used car market.
Why is the scholarship only open to women?
With figures from catalyst.org showing that only 16% of those employed in the automotive sector are women, there are few industries with such a need for change. We want to do our bit to bring about a better balance. It’s not just about our belief in gender equality. It’s also because we know businesses that reflect their customers are more profitable, more successful and more able to adapt to ever-evolving consumer trends. Many of the key positions at Carspring - from Head of Marketing, to Head of Human Resources, to Head of Product - are held by women. The IMI have also been leading the charge to address gender bias within the industry. It has been their passion and enthusiasm for supporting female talent that inspired this scholarship.
You can apply regardless of the discipline you’re working in. However, we do ask that all applicants have the following to be considered:

Finally, we ask you to write a 500-1000 word briefing document, on the subject of ‘The Future of Automotive Retail’. Here you should provide a summary of the most pertinent emerging trends within the industry.
